Image of the Week

A weekly selection from my landscape photography.

Winter on Beinn Dorainn

It might seem slightly incongruous, posting such a cold image on a week that has been wall-to-wall sunshine. This must be the most beautiful spring we’ve had in years, but most of us are limited to enjoying it through our windows as we try to get the Corona Crisis under control. This photograph was my last day out in the Scottish hills before lockdown kicked in.

It feels like it was a very long time ago now, but it’s got a little of everything that I’m missing about the mountains. Scale, space, and both solitude and friends at the same time.

It was an excellent day out, with a little of everything that makes Scottish winter walking special. We had stunning views, white out conditions, tranquil calm and winds so fierce that Cat could hardly keep her feet under her.

Hopefully it’ll not be too long before we can get back out in the hills.
