The Rock and Tree, Rannoch Moor

Anyone that regularly drives the A82 will recognise this rock and tree!

It might looks quite unlikely, but when you give it some thought, it sort of makes sense. The sad fact of the matter is that Scotland’s deer population destroys any saplings that might dare appear in the moors. This one, growing from a crack in a rock, isn’t so easily accessed, so it gets a bit of an easy life.

I’ve passed it countless times over the years and have often wondered if there was a photograph to be had. On this evening I realised that I would be passing just as the light was starting to drop, and thought that it might work with some longer exposures as the cars whizzed by.

Prints of this photograph can be ordered from my gallery.
